FAQs

Frequently asked questions

With almost 30 years in the automotive industry, we’ve been asked all kinds of questions about all makes and models of cars…here is a list of the most commonly asked ones, but you can also give us a call if you can’t find an answer here.

How often do I need to have my car serviced?

Regular oil changes can actually double the life of your car's engine. Taxi drivers have the oil changed every 3 months to maximise the number of kilometres that they get out of their engine. The average car may only manage 300,000 kms however a taxi might manage 500,000kms. Although the recommended time between oil changes may only be once every 6 months or 15,000kms, it is actually the way that you drive your car that determines the life of the engine oil and ultimately the engine itself.

If your car travels mostly on short trips of less than 20kms at a time, then your engine oil should be changed approximately every 6000kms. This is because it takes about 20kms of driving time for your car to fully heat the engine oil to the point that fuel contaminants start to vapourise. Instead these short trips cause thick sludge deposits to build up in the oil and block its effectiveness in lubricating the engine's moving parts.

Consequently, your car's engine is subjected to increased wear and tear. Topping up the oil does not remove these contaminants, the only way to ensure that your car runs at optimum for as long as possible, is to regularly have the oil changed.

This is done during your car service. Consult Elite Servicing Centre for advice on how often you should have your vehicle's oil changed, this will depend on make, model and age.
